Tue, May 3, 2005 - 7:27 AMhi Dr. thanks for your response. Is it the housing that is much cheaper in Nanjing, or overall cost? I am in business and won't need a college, however I know what you mean by the college town vibe :) What else is more appealing to you about Nanjing?
many thanks -

Re: Shanghai or Nanjing
Fri, May 6, 2005 - 7:17 PMnanjing subway is coming soon! you spend a fortune on transportation in shanghai too. plus overall cost is higher. its amazing the difference in the cost of things depending on where you are in china. .
like i said i prefer the small city to the big city generally, you'd feel at home in nanjing this way i think. thats just me tho.
i live in fuzhou a really small city (only 6.5 million!!)
so when i say small its still big pop-wise...
im going for language program there its the best. also the chinese medicine U is also one of the best. also some bars for me to play music
the downside i guess is that you need to carve out a little niche-lifestyle , because you find that there are a limited amount of things to do, where shanghai i think has a lot more to offer a "rich foreigner" (as they say..)
what kind of business r you doing? -

Fri, October 7, 2005 - 8:29 PMApparently NJ and SH are two greatly different cities tho they're so close to each other. I prefer NJ cuz it's more mellow out. -

Re: Shanghai or Nanjing
Fri, October 7, 2005 - 8:59 PMNanjing is also my favorite.
I studied at Nanjing Shi Da, and loved it.
One weekend, I took the train to Shanghai and couldn't wait to get back to Nan Jing. I also love cities, but Shanghai is a monster of a city, and the people very New Yorkish, in a Chinese kind of way. Too claustrophobic for my liking.

Sat, October 8, 2005 - 10:22 AMI'm in Shanghai, It's great for a time, I wouldn't what to be there any more than a year.......But, for a huge city it IS suprisingly beautiful. Plenty of things to do and see, plenty of people to meet and food to eat! Give it a try, maybe I'll run into you at Gong De Ling on Nanjing xi lu. Mmmmm.. ..Yummy!
